Manifesto

I believe in cheap beer, short skirts, hoisting the black flag, a fair fight, the forward pass, sending flowers for no reason, the right to keep and bear arms, true friends, the straight change, fending for yourself, breast augmentation, cut blocks, good whiskey, tattoos, and mosh pits.

I believe in democracy, capitalism, and Darwinism. Survival of the fittest, pure competition and a common good are the diving forces of human history. The fact that Plato, Smith, Locke, Jefferson, Darwin and others came along and named these forces do not mean that they did not exist beforehand, they have always been there and will always drive humanity. And it’s a good thing too, we are a highly competitive animal always trying to rise above our peers and more importantly, those who came before us. If we were not, we would still be lost in the wilderness.

I believe baseball is the purest of games. Individualism framed in a team concept. The one on one match ups that take place on every pitch define the game, as does the support provided by the eight other men on the field. What better analogy for the human condition? We have spent most of our history working to improve our own personal existence while simultaneously toiling inside the framework of society, success and failure determined by sweat and ability.

I believe football is the greatest game. The harnessing of our innate animalistic nature in a controlled environment, the ballet of 2-down/3-around, the timing of route and drop; these are beautiful things. Where else is the dichotomy of man so plain? Between the lines, a barbarian; outside the lines, a gentleman. Competition is a basic human emotion, we want to win. Where is that more apparent than in the trenches?

I believe time is an artificial thing. For eons humans operated solely by 4 F’s: Feed, Fuck, Fear, and Feel Good. You don’t need a watch to know when you’re tired or hungry or when it’s safe to leave the cave…..
